Managing the seasons

As the seasons change, so does your skincare needs. Using the same products year round will not yield the results that you want for your skin, here are some easy ways to get and keep beautiful, healthy, glowing skin throughout every season of the year.

Skin Care All Year Long

  • Drink more water ~ Water can help flush out toxins and it keeps your skin looking bright and clear. If your skin is dry (your cuticles or the corners of your lips always seem to be cracking) it’s definitely a sign you need to increase your hydration.

  • Healthy eating habits ~ Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats from sources like olives, avocados and fish all help to boost your skin’s radiance and overall health. Avoid processed and fatty foods where you can. Excessive amounts of sugar, alcohol or dairy in your diet can lead to breakouts, eczema and other skin reactions.

  • Get plenty of sleep ~ Sleep gives our skin the opportunity for your hydration to rebalance, cell turnover and renewal. It’s important to practice good sleeping habits, turn off those electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime and aim for 7-8 hours sleep per night whenever possible.

  • Reduce stress ~ Managing stress by giving yourself a break and practicing self-care can go a long way in preventing skin reactions. Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne can all be exacerbated by stressful times and situations.

  • Sun Protection - Regardless of the time of year, you should start your skincare regime everyday with the application of an SPF 50+ sunscreen. A few minutes in the sun is important to keep Vitamin D levels healthy, however just a few minutes too many can damage and prematurely age your skin.

Summer

As the mercury rises, bringing humidity and heat, your sebaceous glands go into overdrive, producing excess oil to help cool your skin down. Now is the time to swap out your rich, creamy moisturisers in place for an oil free moisturiser like, Hydrate Your Skin for daytime use.

Autumn

Autumn is an ideal time to remedy any leftover damage from Summer and to help hydrate your skin to be strong enough to withstand whatever winter brings. Winter

Winter’s harsh winds can irritate the skin, causing redness and flaky dryness. Now is the time to bring out an intensive moisturiser to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin. In addition, long hot showers can further irritate the skin and actually throw the skin’s natural protective oils out of balance, even on your scalp, so best to avoid them and instead opt for shorter lukewarm showers.

Spring

If winter left your skin dry and damaged, now is the perfect time for a spring clean.
